International Foundation Year

International Foundation Year

If you would like to be considered for a place on one of the Integrated IFY programmes, you should apply directly to the University of Leeds. These programmes are not in the UCAS scheme so you do not need to complete a UCAS form and it does not cost anything to apply.

You can apply either online, by completing an interactive application form and emailing it to us or by downloading and completing a paper application form and posting, scanning or faxing it to us. Of these three methods you are strongly recommended to apply online if possible since this will enable you to keep a careful track of your application. Whichever method you choose you should complete your application as fully as possible since our decision will be based on the information you provide. It is not normally possible to arrange an individual interview.

Online applications - If you would like to apply online please follow this link

Interactive applications - If you would like to apply using an interactive form and email it to us please follow this link . Please complete the form online and then save it to your PC. You should email the form with supporting documents to intfyear@leeds.ac.uk.

Paper applications - If you would like to apply using a paper application form and post, scan or fax it to us please download one from here

You must complete every section of the paper application form as fully as possible. In particular, you should include the following:

  • The name of the undergraduate degree you wish to study after the International Foundation Year element.
  • Details of any examinations you still have to take.
  • Details of any examinations you have taken but for which you have not yet received the results.
  • Details of all the examinations you have taken for which your results are known. Please include copies of any certificates or documents which show these results.

All applications receive equal treatment, irrespective of race, gender, educational background, sexual orientation or disabilities. For further information please consult our Admissions Policy

When to apply

The deadline by which applications should be received in Leeds is normally June 30th although late applications received up to and including July 31st will be considered wherever possible.

However, you are strongly recommended to apply well in advance of June 30th to allow yourself time to make the necessary arrangements if you are offered a place. Please remember that you will need to allow yourself sufficient time to do the following:

  • to apply for a visa if you require one to enter the United Kingdom
  • to make your travelling arrangements
  • to apply for University accommodation, if you wish to do so.

Please Note:

You can apply even if you have not yet received the results of your final examinations or even if you have not yet taken your final examinations. In such cases, you will normally be made a Conditional Offer (see After you have applied). This means that if you achieve particular marks or grades in your final examinations then you will be guaranteed a place. This enables you to apply before the June 30th deadline given above.
