Visas

The U.K. Government has introduced a Point Based System from 31st March, 2009. The student needs to pass a points-based assessment under Tier 4 for students.

40 Points are required for Student Visa out of which 30 points are for the General Student Visa Letter (Unconditional Offer Letter from University) and 10 points for Maintenance of Funds.

Funds
  1) How to calculate the funds for the Visa:
    a) Undergraduate Students – First year course fees + Pounds 5400 @ Pounds 600 x 9 months
    b) Postgraduate Students -  Course Fees + Pounds 7200 @ Pounds 600 x 12 months
  2) How to Show the funds:
    a) Savings A/c Bank Balance. The savings account should be in the Student’s name. Joint accounts with Parents are also acceptable
    b) Bank Loan Sanction Letter in the student’s name
    c) Bank Fixed Deposit Receipts in the Student’s Name or Jointly with the parents
       
 

Kindly note that the student does not have to show the source of Funds. (Proof of recent deposits not required) For example, if the student has to show Rs.14 Laths, he can show the same by depositing Rs.14 Lakhs cash in his savings account. Alternatively his parents, relatives or friends can transfer part / full amount into the student's bank account

  3) 100% Bank Loan is also acceptable
  4) Government Sponsorship is acceptable
  5) The fees can be paid from any bank account including parents, relatives or friends. The balance funds have to shown in the student’s account or in the form of Bank Loan Sanction letter
  6) Original Fee receipt / deposit receipt will be issued directly by the University after the draft is couriered to the University / money transferred by Telegraphic Transfer (TT) prior to Visa application
  7) Alternatively an international draft (50% or 100% of Tuition Fees in Sterling Pounds) in the favour of “University of Leeds” payable at Leeds, U.K. or London, U.K. can be sent to us at University of Leeds South Asia Office.  We will issue a receipt for the same prior to visa application.  Receipt from U.K. may take 15 – 20 days and receipt from University of Leeds South Asia Office may take 4 -5 days.
     
       
Other Requirements
  1) The General Student Visa Letter (Unconditional Offer Letter from University) should be less than 6 months old.
  2) IELTS / TOEFL needed (if the University has asked in the offer letter)
  3) Students going for pre-sessional courses followed by Master’s or Bachelor’s degree will require an Unconditional Visa letter for both the courses
       
The following documents are required for Student Visa:
  a) Passport
  b) General Student Visa Letter (Unconditional Offer Letter from University)
  c) Fee receipt from the University  
  d) Bank Statement / Passbook in the name of the Student
  e) Bank Fixed Deposit Receipts in the name of the Student
  f) Bank Loan Sanction letter in the name of the student if applicable
  g) Certificate from Bank to certify the account holder/s name/s, Account number and Balance.
  h) Academic Documents
  i) IELTS / TOEFL Score report (if needed)
     
The following documents are not required for Visa:
  a) Income Tax Returns
  b) Other asset papers like: Property, Share, PPF, EPF, Post Office, jewellery, etc
  c)

Sponsorship letter

     
Duration of Visa:
  a)

If the course duration is 12 months and above, the visa would be granted for the length of the course plus 4 months

  b)

If the course duration is 6 months to 11 months, the visa would be granted for the length of the course plus 2 months

  c)

If the course duration is less than 6 months, the visa would be granted for  the length of the course plus 1 month.

     

Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS)

 

Applicants outside of the European Economic Area who intend to apply for a PhD, MPhil or Masters in following subject areas, will need to apply for an Academic Technology  Approval Scheme (ATAS) Certificate before applying for a visa. Personal Details
     

For applying for visa the students do not have to go to the British High Commission directly instead have to submit the Visa Application Form to the Visa Facilitation Services (VFS) offices, which are official agents of British High Commission. VFS have 11 offices located all over the country.

     

Kindly make two transparency files / folders as follows to be taken to the Visa Facilitation Services (VFS) office of British High Commission for Visa.

     
  1) Carrying all Original Documents in above order
  2) Carrying all photocopies of above documents in same order
     
 

Kindly make one more set of photocopy of documents for University of Leeds South Asia Office and send it through courier to us. Please do not send any Original Document to us.

After going through your papers, we will give you a Covering Letter addressed to the British High Commission stating that you have Unconditional Offer and we have seen your financial documents and we feel that you should be granted Visa.
